Hamelin Bay received 2 gold, 1 silver and 6 bronze medals. 

Gold medals were awarded to the 2011 Hamelin Bay Sauvignon Blanc and 2011 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc with the Sauvignon Blanc being the best wine in its class for single vineyard Sauvignon Blancs.

A silver was awarded to the 2009 Mainbreak Shiraz.

The recent release of the 2009 Merlot has been embraced from both stockists and cellar door customers.

The colour is bright red hue with a deep red centre.

 Presenting beautiful aromas of chocolate, plum skin and red berry fruit, with spicy cedary oak and liquorice.

Displaying a bold midpalate with a moderate to long length of flavour and fine emery tannins to finish. 

Lovely and approachable now but with structure to ensure ageing into the medium term.

Hamelin Bay receives Gold for The 2008 Chardonnay

Hamelin Bay also received a silver medal for the 2009 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc and Bronze medals for the 2009 Rampant White, and 2009 Sauvignon Blanc.

The Trophy for Best Sauvignon Blanc In Show was awarded to the Hamelin Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2009.

The Trophy fot the Best Dry White Blend was awarded to the Hamelin Bay Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2009.

Hamelin Bay Wines was the only Western Australian winery to receive a trophy at the 2009 Royal Adelaide Wine Show. Hamelin Bay Wines has now received a Royal Adelaide Trophy for its Semillon Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc a total of five times since 2003.

For Hamelin Bay Wines these awards follow on from winning the Trophy for Best Chardonnay at the Boutique Wine Awards for Hamelin Bay’s Chardonnay 2007 in July 2009 and on October 9^th two gold medals at the Qantas WA Wine Show, Mt Barker, for Hamelin Bay’s Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2009 and the new second label “Mainbreak” Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2009.

These awards once again confirm the excellence of the Southern region of Margaret River around Karridale for producing superb quality white wines.  The combination of a cool spring, naturally limiting the cropping level and sunny dry finish saw excellent harvest conditions for Karridale fruit in 2009.  It takes a great winemaking team with a commitment to detail, as well as great fruit, to bring it all together and the awards are due recognition for the excellent work of winemakers Julian Scott and Simon Ding.

This year the Festival will house the brilliant, creative and astonishing fashions of many of WA’s local and internationally recognised designers including Ruth Tarvydas, Melanie Greensmith of Wheels & Dollbaby and Morrison.

In 2009 Perth Fashion Festival is again set to surprise Perth’s large contingent of ardent fashion fans. Scheduled for 4 – 10 September 2009, Perth will be transformed as PFF celebrates WA fashion and style as you’ve never seen it before.

and the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2008 Rampant white and 2007 Chardonnay also faired well with 88, 89 and 89 points respectively.

At a gala dinner held at the Marriott Hotel in Sydney on Friday 3rd July 2009, Chairman of Judging Huon Hooke announced the winners of 18 top of class trophys for individual wines.

The Max Lake Memorial Trophy for best Chardonnay was awarded to Hamelin Bay Wines 2007 Chardonnay.

Blind River Pinot Noir 2007 has been awarded the Dan Murphy’s trophy for Best Wine of Show. The shiraz trophy went to Harewood Estate of the Great Southern Region in Western Australia. The Semillon trophy to Saddler’s Creek in the Hunter; the Riesling trophy to Eden Springs in the Barossa; White Blend to Swish Wines and the Cabernet trophy to Protero in the Adelaide Hills. The Chris Killeen Memorial trophy went to Stanton and Killeen for their Grand Muscat who also picked up the Estate Grown and Produced trophy.

Roslyn and Richard Drake-Brockman’s rose from the Margaret River region is vivid pink and has cherry and potpourri aromas. Ripe strawberry flavours zips onto the front of the palate and subtle elements of cloves and vanillin oak join in on the middle palage. Steely acid comes through at the finish. 4.5/5

Lovely mix of quince and oak on the nose with traces of light toast and orange zest. Complex and powerful wine with some cellaring potential. 90/100

The West Australian November 2008: Ray Jordan published his Top 100 white wines.

In the $15 to $20 range he recommended the Hamelin Bay Rampant White with a “creamy texture and a light grassiness with those lifted aromas of tropical fruit. Has a slightly minerally gooseberry citrus palate with a crunchy juicy finish”.

In the $20 to $25 range he recommended the Hamelin Bay Semillon Sauvignon Blanc as a “lean bracing style from this southern part of Margaret vRiver. Has a tight piercing acid with lots of cruncy vibrant intense fruit”.

“We opened 24 different rosés (as you do) and this was a runaway winner. You’ll find lovely sweet berry aromas and delicious fruit and spice, with hints of barrel-ferment character, on the bone-dry palate. Perfect with Lebanese dishes. $20.”
