Margaret River
The Margaret River wine region is located in the South West of Western Australia in a narrow 100 km strip between two capes - Cape Naturaliste in the North and Cape Leeuwin in the South.
As the region is bounded by ocean on three sides it is characterised by a maritime climate. The winters are wet and stormy with most of the region's 1200mm rainfall falling between May and September. The summers are cool, mild and dry making irrigation essential. The preferred viticultural soils are well drained brown sandy gravels.
The region is noted for its Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and blends of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc with Merlot and Shiraz gaining in reputation. The fine wine, fine dining, surf and sun combines with the beauty of the rugged coastline and the high Marri and Karri forests to make the region a tourist getaway as well as one of Australia's best winery addresses.
