Karridale

Karridale has a mean January temperature (MJT) of 19.1 degrees, heat degree days (HDD) of 1,507 and sunshine hours of 1,524 (Gladestones 1992). This means Karridale in mid summer is 1.8 degrees cooler than Busselton in the Margaret River region's north and 1.1 degrees cooler than the central Willyabrup district which has the greatest concentration of wineries.

Karridale's MJT and HDD are almost identical to Napa in California. Karridale's HDD is also comparable to Bordeaux despite Bordeaux having a distinctly higher MJT and while Karridale has a significantly higher HDD due to mild spring and autumn weather its MJTis comparable with some parts of Burgundy and the Loire Valley.

The closest comparisons outside of Margaret River are, not surprisingly, the southern maritime areas of Australia such as Pemberton and Albany in Western Australia and Mornington 3,000 km away in Victoria.
